Short film ‘Echoes’

An intimate portrait of memory and place, shaped from twelve hours of footage into eighteen unhurried minutes.

Cinematic dusk still of a woman by a window

Overview

The challenge

Echoes was shot over four seasons with no script — only a subject, a landscape, and hours of patient observation. The director needed an editor willing to watch everything and protect the film’s quiet pace.

The approach

I logged the full archive into themed selects, then built the film in three movements around sound: wind, work, and song. Long takes were allowed to breathe, and the score was placed to answer the picture rather than lead it.
